Hedwig Fassbender has always had a special affinity for the art-song recital, or more specifically the „Liederabend.“ In 1981, she was a prize-winner of the Hugo Wolf Song Competition as well as in the „German National Selection of Concerts for Young Artists.“
She has given an estimate of 100 recitals with an array of talented pianists. In her first years, she often collaborated with Aziz Kortel, and later on with Hilko Dumno. Her recorded art-song work includes Othmar Schoeck „The Silent Glow“ with Aziz Kortel and a collection of Richard Strauss songs entitled „Songs of Love and Death“ with Hilko Dumno. Since 2016 she has been artistic director and curator of the recital series „Song and Poetry“ for the Goethe House in Frankfurt.
Between 1991 and 2003 she toured with a scenic program of songs Kurt Weill songs throughout Germany („Wo sind die Tränen von gestern Abend?“) And in France („Au fond de la Seine“) with pianist Harri Rodmann until his death. The show, co-directed by Mauro Guindani, has been featured on the studio stage of the Basel Theater, the Auditorium of the Amphitheater of the Opéra Bastille Paris, the Amphitheater of the Gran Teatro del Liceo and the Auditorium of the Louvre.
